Students from Calvarianberg Realschule visit Tomlinscote
On Wednesday 11th May we had 60 German students and staff visit Tomlinscote as part of their trip to England. They were students from Calvarianberg Realschule and this is the school that some of our Year 7 students visit each year during the International Week trip.
It was a superb day with the students mixing with our students and attending lessons in Art, Music and our German lessons. Our students also gave them a tour of Tomlinscote.
It was very encouraging to see some relationships continue from last year because some of the students had obviously been communicating through social media.
We are very much looking forward to seeing them again next month in Germany during our Year 7 International Week 2016.

PASCH International Olympics in German 2016
On April 22nd two of our Year
10 Germanists spent the day at the Goethe Institut in London taking part in the
national finals of the “International Olympics in German”.
To be selected for this final the girls had to submit videos in German covering a range of topics. The competition was open to all schools in the UK, so we were very excited that the girls were amongst the seven finalists.
The girls had a great day and enjoyed the experience but couldn’t quite overcome the competition who were all Sixth formers!
Well done girls and thanks to the
Goethe Institut for providing us with this amazing opportunity.

French Exchange 2016
Last month 16 students from our partner school in Lille visited
Tomlinscote for a week as part of the French Exchange scheme. They followed a
programme of activities that enabled them to discover different aspects of the
British culture, as well as bond further with their exchange partners and
improve their English.
Amongst other visits, the French students and their
Tomlinscote partners enjoyed a day trip to London, which included an
opportunity to visit the Houses of Parliament and watch the West End Musical
Wicked.
When
at Tomlinscote, our French visitors sampled a range of lessons from different
areas of the curriculum. They seemed very impressed with the facilities and
breadth of subjects available here, compared to what is on offer in their
French school.
Everyone
seems impatient to go to Lille in October for the return trip, although some
students have decided they cannot wait that long and have made plans to meet
again in the summer.
