On Wednesday 21st October, 12 Tomlinscote
students identified by their teachers as able in Modern Foreign Languages were
given the opportunity to attend the Languages at Work day at Wellington
College. The event enabled them to speak
directly to people who use language skills to great advantage in their work,
such as representatives from Conversis, GCHQ, Symantec, a Japanese teacher from
UCL and Chris Dennis, multilingual sports broadcaster for the BBC and Eurosport.
It also allowed them to understand the importance of communication in business
and to enjoy the opportunity of networking with young people similar to
themselves.
Although the five workshops examined language skills in
the workplace from different perspectives, they provided a wonderfully clear
vision of their importance.
All
12 students really impressed with their ability in the languages involved,
their confidence, willingness to participate and desire to know more. Well
done!
