Improve your pronunciation with Text to Speech!

If you want to improve your pronunciation or find out how to say certain words, you could use a 'text to speech' programme. It's really magic!

Just copy your MFL text (for example, your German speaking exam preparation) and paste it in the box.

Choose your language and click on listen.

Simply follow this link:
http://www.acapela-group.com/text-to-speech-interactive-demo.html

You can even choose whether you want a male or female native speaker to read it out...

Do the process sentence by sentence and repeat after the speaker to achieve perfect authentic pronunciation!

Test your Language skills with the BBC

If you are getting bored over half-time, are missing your language lessons and have some time to kill, why don't you take the BBC language test to judge how good you really are?

especially those of you starting the countdown to GCSE and GCE exams, do have a look at this. It tests all four skills and gives you an idea of your level.

KS 3 can try the beginner  section, KS 4 should probably go for the post-beginner level!
Good luck!

Click on the stars to get to the different language tests!

Year 11 Speaking Exam

Dear Year 11,
As you are very much aware, the Speaking Exams are almost here. Hopefully you are all revising for it now, and you have a technique that works for you.

Have you tried..
- asking someone to test you for your conversation questions (do you remember what you wanted to say?)
- asking someone to test you on the meanings of the questions
- recording your answers on your MP3 player/tape/computer and listening back to it
- reading your answers out loud
- practicing your role-play answers with a friend
- predicting what type of question might come up for the ! parts of the role play

The revision sessions are another great way of revising for this exam. Don't forget that there will be 20 minutes allocated to just MFL after school before the other revision sessions start. Come along and practice with your teacher or other students. It might make a big difference to your grade!

You all have a Conversation Booklet (if you have lost yours, download one from the school website http://www.tomlinscote.surrey.sch.uk/departments/Resources.htm), and past examples of role-plays in the booklets your teachers have given you. Please ask if you can't find yours.

Format of the Exam
You have been given a time to come to E-Block.Please don't come really early, otherwise it will get too busy in E1. Bring your preparation work with you, so that you can practice with the Foreign Languages Assistant.
- Two role-plays (A&B for Foundation, B&C for Higher)
- Two conversation topics (first one is the one of your choice)

The exam will be over before you know it! Remember, you have been practicing these questions for a long time now, so you will do well.

So, please start your revision for the speaking exams now (they are the first exams). All of the hard work will pay off!

GCSE Revision Classes

Dear Year 11,
Below are the revision sessions for Spanish and German (French to follow). Remember, this is a great way of revising for your exams. There are many other ways of revising, so don't forget to experiment - for example, internet resources and past papers from your teacher/revision guides. If you haven't yet downloaded the MP3 files for speaking practice, you might like to do that too: http://www.tomlinscote.surrey.sch.uk/departments/Resources.htm

Year 11 - you will have received your mock exam results by now. It is never too early to start thinking about revising for the final exams in May/June.
How about starting now, and doing a little bit every day?

Here are some websites that you could check out:

http://linguastars.com/ (ask your teacher for the username and password)

You could also ask your teacher for extra past papers to help you practice.

Good luck!
