KinderUni

On the 29 September, all year 7 children learning German attended their first university lecture!

As part of their KinderUni project the Goethe-Institut organised a guest speaker for us from Bielefeld University. Frau Demirkaya from the Faculty of Linguistics and Literature taught the young students about 'How languages work'. They listened to sound bites in several languages, worked out grammar patterns, identified word order rules, looked at how other languages write and even learned some Turkish!
In the afternoon, year 6 classes at Ravenscote had the opportunity to attend their first (Kinder-) Uni lecture. The children thought it was really interesting and were very proud to feel like proper students!

A big Danke schön to the speaker and Frau Soylucicek from the Goethe-Institut for these interesting talks!

Eurovision 2010 - Germany

It’s a story that only pop music could write. Lena Meyer-Landrut from Hanover is actually right in the middle of preparing for her high school exams. She’s doing Biology, Sport and History and she’s got a lot of revising to do. But now she’s going to be representing Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest in the Norwegian capital Oslo. On the 29th of May, 2010, just after her 19th birthday, she’ll be up on the big stage performing the song Satellite. “It’s going to be hard going up to the exams in April, but I’ll manage,” she says with a sigh. “Then it will almost be relaxing to head off to the Eurovision final.”
