Welcome back!

Welcome back! The new academic year has started, and with this, we will be restarting the Tomlinscote MFL blog.

Student of the Month will start again in November, where students' work will be selected and displayed on the blog. We had some fantastic work being celebrated last year, and we are sure that the same will happen this academic year.

Intensive Courses!

Between 23rd June and 4th July, Year 9 Tomlinscote School students had the privilege of undertaking Chinese, Japanese, German and French Intensive courses. The Chinese and Japanese courses lasted two weeks, and the German and French courses lasted a week each. Below are photographs from the fortnight.

- The martial arts photos show both a Taichi lesson for the students on the Intensive Mandarin Chinese course and a demonstration in Japanese martial arts for the Japanese students by Mr. Michael Jay.

- The kimono photos show the Japanese intensive course students learning how to put on kimonos in the correct way and subsequently posing in them. The kimonos were lent by the Japanese Embassy and volunteers from Japan 21 came into school to instruct our Y9 students on the way to wear them, tie the belt correctly etc.

German Exchange Students come to Tomlinscote!

The German Exchange has been running at Tomlinscote for ten successful years! This year, twenty-seven students from the Robert Bosch Gymnasium, Wendlingen, came to Tomlinscote. The photos below are from their visits to the school, London and Brighton.

This is what the German students have written about the Exchange:

'After arriving we didn’t know what the next ten days would be like, but now, at the end of our visit, we can say that it was a wonderful time.

We had a good mixture of interesting school days and great activities, for example, we went on our trips to Stonehenge, Brighton and London.

We want to say thank you to all the families and everyone who organized the exchange. We enjoyed ourselves a lot and we are looking forward to the English partners coming to Germany in October. '

French Partner School visit

On Wednesday 2nd July, 49 students from our French Partner School, Collège Jules Vallès in Le Puy-en-Velay came to Tomlinscote to meet their penpals. Our students showed them around the school, after which they completed an activity in French and English, and finally they sampled an English school lunch in our canteen.
