Year 7 trip to France 2014 - Day 2

Nous aimons le Parc Futuroscope! - We like the Futuroscope Park!

Today we have spent the day at Futuroscope where we have learnt about the solar system in the planetarium, ridden giant pedalos and had a go on what was voted the world's best attraction in 2012, among other things. We are back at the hotel for a quick change of clothes before heading back for the laser show tonight! Here are some photos of our day today:

Year 7 Germany trip - day 2

Today, after a continental breakfast of Brötchen, sliced meat and cheese and 'heiße Schokolade' the two coaches set off for different adventures: coach 1 went to Boppard and up on the scary chair lift to see   the river Rhine among the vinyards.
Meanwhile, the double decker went to the German grammar school Calvarienberg in Neuenahr-Ahrweiler where we were made very welcome by staff and year 7s, who chatted with our students in English and German about their interests, school and of course, the world cup. Star communicator was Jack Johnson who chatted fluently in German, charming our hosts. At break, they played an international match of football (Germany won - again!) After some more football-related worksheets, and many pupils exchanging details to stay in touch, we went into town to find lunch. Students used their language skills to buy Brezeln, Bratwurst, Eis and various goodies from bakeries.

To be continued...

The trip on the coach to get to Germany was very long, but we saw lots of pretty nature around us. It was fun at the shops because we were given freedom about where to go and it was nice that we were trusted to get back on time. It was interesting at the school because it stretched our German skills and we got to see what schools in Germany are like.                Sophie Hand and Katrina Johnson

The school was very big and the students were very nice. They showed us around the school and told us what they do. They had a nice libary, the play ground had benches so the students could sit down and eat their snacks at break. The cafeteria had a good selection of food but the room could be a bit bigger because lots of people try to get in and when there are already people there they have to wait out side. One of the students told us what sport they do and said it very well in English. They do long jump, football, tennis, basketball and lots more. Strangely they do not do art because none of the teachers do art, they used to do it but now not. We are having a good trip so far, it took a long time to get to Germany but it was worth it.

Year 7 French trip to France 2014

Miam miam!

We've had a lovely 3-course dinner at our hotel restaurant and now everyone is tucked up and ready for a good sleep! Bonne nuit!

Year 7 German trip- first day

We've arrived safely at the Hotel Anker, went for a walk along the river Mosel and a quick match of football (50 against 50 in the woods, while Germany was playing Portugal in Brasil.
For dinner, year 7s enjoyed Kartoffelsuppe (potato soup), Schnitzel mit Pommes (chips) and Eis (Ice-cream).
They tried everything, liked most and are working on their table manners...
Now they've crashed out and hopefully get a good sleep before going on their various activities tomorrow.
Gute Nacht!

Year 7 Trip to France 2014

Nous sommes arrivés! - We have arrived!

Students on the French trip are relaxing before dinner, some playing football and some just having a chat on the grass in the sunshine!

We're looking forward to dinner in the very colourful restaurant... Over and out for now, back with updates soon!

So far so good - year 7 Trip to Germany 2014

Having met at 4.20 in the morning and waved good-bye to their families, 113 year 7 students and 13 staff are heading to the Rheinland to enjoy German culture and food, practise their language skills and have a fantastic time with their friends.
We're on the ferry now, exploring the boat and braving the rain on deck.
We can't wait to arrive in Germany!

Eurovision Song Contest 2014

Glückwunsch to Austria!
After Lena a few years ago, another German-speaking country has won the Song contest tonight. Singing the beautiful power ballad 'Rise like a phoenix', Conchita Wurst made it to the top spot, despite of (or aided by?) her well-trimmed beard. Unfortunately from a language learning point of view, the only German words were in her name (for you non-Germanists: Wurst  means sausage).

While Germany entered with a negligible effort in English, here are the French and Spanish videos - who at least included some language snippets for you to enjoy...

The singer of Twin Twin complains about how he can't grow a moustache...

..while Spanish entry Ruth Lorenzo complains about the rain.

And Great Britain? Well, at least Molly didn't come last - France did! Upps!

Auf Wiedersehen in Österreich next year!
